The course completion certificate of this class is an acceptable training verification that may be used to obtain a Virginia resident or non-resident concealed carry permit.

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation Course Details
This course is a thorough introduction to proper pistol usage and handling. This class includes approximately four hours of classroom time and each student will complete live-fire exercises at the NRA Headquarters range after the classroom portion is complete.
The class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.
The initial 4 hours of classroom instruction will be held at Lyon Park Fellowship Church (formerly Bloss Memorial Church), located at 716 N Barton Street Arlington VA 22201. Ample parking is available for free, and the church is just a 15 minute walk away from the Clarendon Metro Station.
Live-fire portions of this class are held at the NRA Headquarters Range in Fairfax, VA. The NRA Headquarters Range is located at 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. The range entrance is located at the rear of the building, on the north side, in the lower level parking garage. The NRA Headquarters range is a state of the art facility, complete with automatic target retrieval systems and is wheel chair accessible.
By registering for this class, you are acknowledging that you are at least 21 years old and not legally prohibited from operating, possessing, transferring, or owning a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as regulated by federal, state, and local laws. False notification or misrepresentation to legally possess firearms in the Commonwealth will result in student’s immediate removal from class and forfeiture of all course fees.
By registering for this class, you are also hereby expressly assuming the risk of taking part in the course for instruction in firearms, and taking part in the activities, which include, but are not limited to, instruction in the use of firearms, the discharge of firearms, and the firing of live ammunition.
